Sea Point Promenade gets an artsy facelift

Posted on 16 July 2024 By Nomvelo Masango

Cape Town’s renowned Sea Point Promenade is experiencing a funky and dynamic transformation.

Local artists have come together to create an open-air art exhibition from previously ordinary ablution buildings.

Indeed, ablution blocks may not typically be seen as canvasses. However, the artists involved identified a unique opportunity to tap into their creativity.

Property developer Blok collaborated with local artist agency SJ Artists as part of a bigger vision to elevate public spaces in Cape Town’s most-loved landmarks. The project aims to invest in local art and culture, while also providing a platform for the Mother City’s talented and creative individuals.

The artists and developers encourage people to stroll along the promenade and explore each mural at their leisure.

Each art piece is accompanied by a plaque which provides information about the artist and their work.

Sea Point has long been an artistic hub. However, this new transformation has instilled a sense of pride among Sea Point residents. The art also sends a strong message to the broader Cape Town community regarding the importance of taking care of enhancing public spaces and taking care of them.
