Is August the new September?
In South Africa, Spring is traditionally celebrated on the 1st of September. However, the City of Gold is already experiencing Spring temperatures.
The South African reported that temperatures reached as high as 24˚C this past weekend. According to AccuWeather, the August temperatures for Johannesburg thus far, as well as the predictions for the rest of the month show an average of 22˚C.
As per The South African, this aligns with predictions by Weather25, which highlight an average lowest temperature of 11°C. The predictions also indicate little to no rain in August.
Furthermore, temperatures in mid-August are expected to reach up to 26˚C.
When it comes to high temperatures, Johannesburg is not alone. This is in line with global trends as the Copernicus Climate Change Service recorded a series of high temperatures for the month of April.
Globally, we experienced the warmest April on record, with temperatures 0.7˚C above the 1991–2020 average.
