This event took place on 17 September, and approximately 25 passengers were injured. Zino Mihi, the spokesperson of Metrorail, has commented on this tragic event: “No fatalities have been reported, and other passengers were safely transported home.”

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) and other authorities are still investigating the cause of the derailment.

Crisis24 reports that the track needs to be cleared and repaired, which will lead to rail traffic being diverted.
