Cheuvront, who went on a solo hike on Saturday, had not been heard from since she left her accommodation around noon to climb Devil’s Peak. When her tracking app stopped updating and friends were unable to contact her, an immediate search was launched by SANParks rangers, Wilderness Search and Rescue, and local trail runners. Despite their efforts, she was not found that evening.

Search operations resumed early Sunday morning, involving multiple agencies and the City of Cape Town’s aircraft. Her body was located on the slopes of Devil’s Peak around 2 p.m. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation, with an autopsy pending.

SANParks expressed its condolences to Cheuvront’s family and thanked all involved in the search efforts. Authorities have urged hikers to take necessary precautions, including hiking in groups, informing others of their routes, and carrying appropriate gear for changing weather conditions.
