Starting March 1 next year, Emirates will add a fourth daily flight to its Johannesburg route, marking a significant expansion of its South African services.
According to Travel News, this new service will operate using a three-class Boeing 777-300ER, offering an additional 354 seats from OR Tambo International Airport. However, South African travelers eager for the airline’s Premium Economy cabin will have to wait, as it is not expected to be introduced in the short term.
This announcement follows the launch of the second daily A380 service between Dubai and Johannesburg on September 1. Emirates’ Chief Operating Officer, Adnan Kazim, confirmed that the airline has now restored its pre-pandemic capacity to South Africa, offering 49 weekly flights across Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban.
