Eco-Logic Awards celebrates South Africa’s Eco-Innovators

Posted on 27 September 2024 By Tsoku Maela
The stage is set for the 13th annual Eco-Logic Awards, with finalists announced ahead of the highly anticipated event taking place on 30 October at the Two Oceans Aquarium, V&A Waterfront.
The awards, which spotlight South Africa’s most innovative and impactful eco-conscious individuals, organisations, products, and services, have become a hallmark of environmental excellence across the country.

Entries for the awards opened in April 2024, and after rigorous evaluations by a panel of independent experts with environmental knowledge, finalists were selected across 12 categories. These categories represent a wide range of eco-solutions, including Eco-Fashion, Circulation Economy, and Waste Innovation. The finalists are recognised for their groundbreaking efforts in creating a healthier and more sustainable future.

David Parry-Davies, founder of the Eco-Logic Awards and editor of The Enviropaedia, shared insight into the judging process. ‘While many of the entries were impressive, what ultimately led us to deciding on the finalists was how well they demonstrated and reflected Eco-Logical Intelligence. This concept is defined by seven specific ways of thinking that benefit ‘People, Planet, and Profit.’ These VIRTUES of Eco-Logical Thinking can be accessed on our website.’

This year, in a progressive partnership with Biomimicry SA, the Eco-Logic Awards have introduced a new focus on nature-inspired solutions to human challenges. Winners will not only gain the recognition and media spotlight that comes with an Eco-Logic Award, but also a consultation valued at R300 000 with the BiomimicrySA team. In addition, they will be enrolled in the prestigious “Change Makers by Nature” programme, equipping them with tools to think systemically and design nature-inspired solutions.

Hosted by comedian and presenter Themba Robin, the event will also be broadcast to a national audience on PPL°PLANET (OpenView Channel 115), offering millions of South Africans a chance to celebrate the progress toward a sustainable future.

The Eco-Logic Awards continue to thrive through the support of organisations like Two Oceans Aquarium, Interwaste, The Ford Wildlife Foundation, Polyco, and CSIR-NCPC. Their shared commitment to a greener, more eco-conscious society makes these awards—and the champions they honour—possible.
