Prof Blade Nzimande and Patricia de Lille have stated their commitment to a strategy of Astro-Tourism. This will highlight the Northern Cape as a must-see destination for attractions focused on astronomy and science.

With the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) in Sutherland and the Square Kilometer Array (SKA radio telescope), this province is well on its way to becoming a hotspot for stargazing lovers.

The initiative is also set to promote agri-tourism in the Karoo with its unpolluted skies that are perfect for stargazing and through its scientific infrastructure and achievements.
