Tervin Mdluli, a seasoned safari guide, experienced a heart-racing encounter in Greater Kruger during a dry morning outing. Tervin, focused on finding big game near the remaining waterholes, spotted a stunning scene—a herd of elephants drinking and bathing. But his attention soon turned to a massive rhino bull heading directly toward the herd.
Known for their territorial nature and poor eyesight, male rhinos can be unpredictable. As a young male elephant attempted to face off with the rhino, it hesitated and stepped back, giving the rhino confidence to charge. The rhino drove the elephants away, clearing the area.
With the elephants out of sight, the rhino set its sights on Tervin’s safari vehicle. The initial amusement turned into nervous laughter as Tervin expertly reversed to safety. The rhino eventually calmed down, leaving Tervin and his guests with a thrilling story they’ll never forget.
