On 22 October 2024, South African National Parks (SANParks) marked a major conservation milestone with the completion of a vital ecological corridor within Table Mountain National Park.

This newly incorporated land bridges the gap between Noordhoek and Kommetjie, linking the Central and Southern sections of the park. This achievement enhances biodiversity and ecological integrity in the region.

The project, initiated in 1998, faced challenges due to the privately owned Noordhoek wetlands. However, through a collaborative effort involving SANParks, the City of Cape Town, WWF-SA, and the Table Mountain Fund, 439 hectares of core wetland properties were acquired by SANParks in 2004. These areas were declared part of the Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site in 2015, with restoration efforts ongoing.

At the handover event, it was announced that Kommetjie Estates and Red Cliff Property donated the final 25.5 hectares of land needed to complete the corridor. This addition will support the return of endangered fynbos and strengthen long-term conservation efforts in the park.
