The KwaZulu-Natal South Coast has maintained its position as the region with the highest number of Blue Flag beaches in the province.
This is as per the Blue Flag and Green Coast Awards hosted by the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA). The awards are aimed at celebrating the country’s outstanding beaches, as well as sustainable tourism operators.
As reported by African Travel & Tourism Association, seven of the country’s 48 Blue Flag beaches are located along the KZN South Coast, with an additional five beaches holding Blue Flag Pilot status.

One KZN South Coast beach, Trafalgar, earned a certificate for 15 consecutive years in the programme in 2024, while Marina Beach celebrates an impressive 21 years in the Blue Flag programme.
The KZN South Coast Blue Flag beaches 2024/2025 include Marina Beach, Trafalgar Beach, Southport Beach, Umzumbe Beach, Ramsgate Beach, Hibberdene Beach and Pennington Beach.
The Blue Flag beaches in the South Coast region, and KwaZulu-Natal at large, position the area as a premier tourist destination for the upcoming festive season. Thus, a significant influx of tourists seeking quality beach experiences is expected.
