The Border Management Authority (BMA) has temporarily closed the Lebombo Border Post between South Africa and Mozambique.
The temporary closure is as a result of safety concerns following violent protests in Mozambique.
There have been reports of vehicles being torched during protests linked to disputed election results.

The protests began in Maputo at the end of last month after Mozambique’s election results were announced.
As reported by Travel News, BMA has clarified that the decision to close the border is aimed at prioritizing the safety of cross-border travellers, traders, transporters and all port officials.
According to TimesLive, the commissioner of the BMA also encouraged stakeholders to make use of alternative routes to Mozambique until the situation stabilizes.
BMA and its counterparts are currently working to urgently address the situation. Stakeholders will be notified once the port is considered safe to re-open.
