Cape Town International Airport is set to undergo extensive renovations from 2026, with completion estimated to be by 2029.
As reported by African Travel & Tourism Association, the upgrades will be funded through Airports Company South Africa’s (ACSA) R21,7 billion investment programme.
The upgrades will include the construction of a new runway, as well as the expansion of both domestic and international terminals.

Tourism Update also reported that the revamp will include additional contact stands, as well as enhanced security features including expanded self-service boarding facilities and full-body scanners.
The upgrades were initially due to begin in 2020. However, plans were delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent recovery periods.
The project forms part of a greater modernisation of a number of South African airports, including Johannesburg’s OR Tambo and King Phalo in East London.
