A local low-cost airline is seeking a refund for passenger charges from ACSA (Airports Company South Africa) after a refuelling issue at OR Tambo International. While the system is seemingly up and running again, and flight schedules are back on track, FlySafair is reportedly unhappy with the outcome.
According to SA News, FlySafair states that this refuelling issue (around 3 hours) was preventable and wishes to hold ACSA accountable for its actions. Mechanical problems happen occasionally, but the airline’s passenger fees cover these service fee costs.
African Insider reports that the airline criticises ACSA for failing to deliver its cost-covered services and feels it should be refunded for not meeting the servicing requirements. The refuelling caused many flights to be delayed, while some were reportedly cancelled due to the backlog.
With the pilot strike and the more recent refuelling issue, this major budget airline voiced its concerns about the incident and is requesting a further solution to be carried out so passengers can regain faith in local air transport:
“We feel that by virtue of the fact that this entirely preventable issue came to pass, the airports company didn’t effectively honour the contract or the job that they seek to offer their clients, and so we believe that it’s a reasonable request to say that those customers, at the very least deserve their money back,” Kirby Gordon, the FlySafair Spokesperson, has stated.
