Big Potato Hotel – Idaho, United States
Attention all potato lovers! This one is definitely for you! While the outside may leave you wanting to take a bite out of this six-tonne potato, the inside is simple and charming and features all-white walls and trendy neutral finishings. The potato itself is located on 400 acres of beautiful farmland, offering awesome views of America’s Midwest.
The Boot – Nelson, New Zealand
So, childhood dreams do come true! Simply called The Boot, this adorable fairytale accommodation will have you reminiscing about childhood stories, in particular, The Old Lady and the Shoe. The interior is pretty magical too, offering hues of yellow and orange along with simple decor that blends well with the fairytale theme. Spend your getaway imagining you’re Rapunzel or explore the rugged coastline and mountains located not too far from this accommodation.
Lucy the Elephant – New Jersey, United States
Ever wanted to stay inside an elephant? While the thought may not be that appealing, this interesting accommodation is one of America’s oldest roadside attractions, and it has even hosted a US president. Named Lucy, this 138-year-old wooden elephant is anything but plain inside, featuring a beautiful blend of Moroccan and carnival-style decor. There’s a tonne of space inside, with an adorable rooftop that boasts spectacular views of the Jersey Shore.
A Cave Home – Cotignac, France
Enjoy all the charm that the South of France has to offer while lazing about in a cave. This rental is carved into the side of the cliff and offers gorgeous views of the village below, along with rustic furnishings. Spend your afternoons grabbing fresh produce from the quaint town below before cooking up a storm or exploring all that this beautiful Provencal village has to offer.
Brother Island – El Nido, Philippines
Okay, so not exactly strange, but how many times can we say we spent a few nights on our own private island? Spend your afternoons exploring the preserved bamboo forest and jungle, or laze about on the white-sandy shore while watching the serene blue waters. Along with an island all to yourself, the accommodation includes seven bedrooms and breakfast, lunch, and supper for only R5 800 per night.
Mafu Haus – Tofo, Mozambique
Looking at something a little closer to home, a weird but wonderful accommodation to check out the next time you’re frolicking on the white-sandy beaches of Mozambique is Mafu Haus. It’s probably not the weirdest thing on this list, but it’s still pretty cool thanks to its egg-shaped exterior. The interior is something to write home about, offering guests the chance to enjoy some glorious views and a contemporary design with concrete as its centrepiece. It’s also pretty close to Tofo Beach, which is a great addition when visiting this part of Mozambique.
The Sunset Dome – Tulbagh, South Africa
The Sunset Dome, along with its neighbour, the Moonrise Dome, has consistently found itself on the list of most-booked Airbnbs in South Africa. And it’s not difficult to see why. Nestled on La Bruyere Farm, it offers incredible views of the Tulbagh Valley and the Witzenberg Mountains. Stare in wonder at the gorgeous moon or enjoy an incredible sunset when booking your stay here.
