Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport has been ranked as one of the busiest airports in the Middle East and Africa.
This is according to recent data by aviation analytics firm OAG, which revealed the busiest airports of 2024.
As reported by The South African, OR Tambo was ranked the seventh busiest airport in the Middle East and Africa, operating over 12 million seats in 2024.
OAG based its calculations on one-way airline capacity for both international and domestic flights.
As reported by Travel News, the data stated that OR Tambo operated 12,2 million seats. This is 4% more than in 2023 but still 18% behind pre-COVID 2019 levels.
Dubai International Airport claimed the top spot in the region with over 60,2 million seats in 2024. It also ranked second globally.
