Pack of wild dogs put up a fight as leopard ambushes one of their own

It is often said that there is safety in numbers. For many animals in the jungle, unity is an important part of survival (or at least an attempt thereof).

At the world-famous MalaMala Game Reserve, a pack of wild dogs put up a fight as a leopard ambushed one of their own.

Expert safari rangers, Mrisho Lugenge and Mike Kirkman filmed all the action.

As the wild dogs were feeding on a recent kill, a male leopard approached. Thanks to its phenomenal camouflage, it was able to get within meters of the nearest dogs.

Although the dogs moved off, one of them returned a short while later, perhaps to pick up some scraps of food.

Unaware of the leopard, it walked right into the ambush.

While the leopard caused mortal injury to the wild dog, this did not take place without a fight from the closely-knit pack of wild dogs who rushed to the aid of their fallen comrade.
