The Mother City has been ranked as the fourth-best African destination. This is according to TripAdvisor’s 2025 Travellers’ Choice Awards, Best of the Best Destinations.
As reported by IOL, the annual ranking serves to highlight the most sought-after travel locations and is based on reviews from millions of travellers.

Sitting comfortably on the number one spot is Morocco’s Marrakech. Commonly known as ‘The Red City’, the magical destination stands out for its markets, gardens, palaces and mosques.
It is followed by Mauritius which is known and loved for being an idyllic tropical paradise with plenty to do.

In third place is Zanzibar Island, while popular destinations Nairobi and Victoria Falls rounded out the top six.
Loved for its diverse offerings, Cape Town remains a firm favourite and occupies the fourth spot. From the scenic Table Mountain to historic sites like Robben Island, the destination caters to different travellers. It also boasts pristine beaches, renowned wine regions, as well as a thriving arts and culture scene worth exploring.
