Cape Town’s iconic Cableway Charity Challenge is back! Since its inception in 2009, the Cableway Charity Challenge has become one of Cape Town’s most beloved fundraising events. What started as a way to engage the community and raise funds for local causes has since evolved into a highly anticipated event on the city’s sporting and charity calendar. In previous years, the event has successfully raised millions for various charitable organisations.
This year, participants will once again hike up Platteklip Gorge as many times as possible between sunrise and sunset, testing their physical limits while contributing to charities such as Ubuntu Football, Funda Kunye, Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS), and Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR). With a fundraising goal of R1 million, the challenge aims to continue its tradition of making a real difference in the lives of those who benefit from these causes.
The Cableway Charity Challenge began in 2009 as a way to bring together Cape Town’s community, sports enthusiasts, and businesses for a good cause. Over the years, it has raised millions of rands for local charities, contributing to meaningful projects that help improve the lives of those in need.
The event has also evolved, with the inclusion of corporate teams, schools, and individual athletes, all competing in a friendly but fierce atmosphere to raise funds for a variety of causes. The challenge has become an excellent platform to unite people of all walks of life for a shared purpose, all while celebrating Cape Town’s natural beauty.
