Amafu Forest Lodge, a stone’s throw from Hoedspruit in Limpopo, has breathtaking views of the valley below the spectacular Mariepskop mountain and offers easy access to the many attractions of the Lowveld. A convenient base from which to explore the Blyde River Canyon and surrounding game reserves like Kapama, the lodge is also only 40 minutes drive to the Kruger National Park where the Big-5 like lion, rhino and elephant can be spotted.
Stay in one of six fully furnished, thatched chalets, each with a private veranda and braai facilities. The spacious double-storey unit can accommodate up to eight people in two bedrooms and a loft divided into two sleeping areas. If you’re after an intimate setting for a romantic getaway or honeymoon, the three thatched chalets on stilts at the back of the property will provide sufficient privacy and luxury. Three of the cottages come with DStv and flat-screen TVs and all are fully equipped for self-catering, but breakfast and dinner options are available on request. Two luxury tents perched at the top offer spectacular views, privacy and comfort.
The thatched lapa and fully equipped bush kitchen can cater for up to 50 people and you can end the day with a splash in the saltwater pool. There are more than 218 bird species as well as bushbuck, samango monkeys and civets on the property.
Activities in the area include white-water rafting, mountain hiking, hot-air ballooning, helicopter flips horseback safaris and visits to the nearby Hoedspruit wildlife rehabilitation center. The scenic Panorama Route is also en route to or from the lodge, with well known landmarks like God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Three Rondawels beckoning to be visited.
