Shimungwe, named after the Bateleur Eagle, is the latest addition to Safaris & Retreats’ portfolio of exceptional African experiences.
This laid-back, family-friendly lodge is carefully crafted around a bend in the dry Timbavati River to bring you the best possible experiences in the prime game-viewing area of Thornybush Nature Reserve, which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park.
Once reserved for private use by invited guests only, Shimungwe retains an intimate charm and is perfectly suited to exclusive—use bookings. The lodge comprises just eight beds (four suites) as well as comfortable dining and relaxation areas, game drive vehicles and a crystal-clear swimming pool.
Each carefully thought-out space immerses guests in the unique, tranquil atmosphere of their surroundings to create an authentic Southern African safari experience.
A day at Shimungwe includes a morning and evening game drive, culminating in an evening meal around the campfire or al fresco with a view. In between, there’s plenty of time to enjoy moments of reflection and relaxation in your suite or around the lodge.
Apart from the chance to enjoy extra game Viewing at a waterhole situated in front of the lodge, guests will find themselves surrounded by many species of birds and their accompanying soundtrack, which is so typical of the African bush.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The prize is valid from 1 November 2023 to 31 July 2024, excluding 18 December 2023 — 5 January 2024 and 29 March — 1 April 2024 (Easter weekend) and is subject to availability.
It is non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
The prize excludes a conservation fee of R850 (2023) and R750 (2024) per person, bar, transport to or from the lodge, anything not specified, anything of a personal nature, gratuities,
telephone, laundry, curio purchases.
