Xigera Safari Lodge in the Okavango Delta is not only home to an array of wildlife, but also the largest private solar plant in Botswana, which supplies 95% of the lodge’s electricity.
Anyone familiar with the hospitality industry will tell you this is no small feat and a giant win for the environment. The lodge runs 1 312 solar panels which deliver a solar array equivalent of 460kw.
According to Xigera, the solar plant saves them an estimated 175 000 litres of diesel a year, which is approximately 500 tons of carbon emissions. That’s a lot of carbon emissions, seeing as South Africans produce an average of 8.1 tons of carbon per person per year.

Located on the western edge of the Moremi Game Reserve, the lodge offers safari drives, on-foot safaris and boat safaris on the Okavango.
