Explore the Wonderwerk Cave

While an hour away from Postmasburg, this drive is well worth the effort for the treasures to behold within this stunning structure. This National Heritage Site is a standing relic of the ancient world, as this cavity dates back to the early start of humanity and civilisation.

Human activity has been noted within this structure, dating back to two million years ago, which is almost unfathomable to our modern minds. From hand axes to cave paintings, you’ll be transported back to when humans only started grappling with their surroundings and existence.

Visit the Witsand Nature Reserve

Another must-do activity near Postmasburg is Witsand Nature Reserve, which offers a kaleidoscope of fauna and flora to encounter on your trip. From the Kalahari red sand to the stoic mountainous areas, this environment is a feast for the eyes.

If you’re a bird enthusiast, you’ll be entranced by the sheer diversity of avian types in these surroundings. With over 170 species to identify and marvel at, you’ll spend the entire day keeping your eyes on the skies to spot these winged beauties.

Individuals who wish to stay longer and drink up every last drop of beauty and excitement this location has to offer can choose to book accommodation on-site. With dune boards to hire and a variety of walking trails to explore, this nature reserve is sure to be fun for the whole family.

Marvel at the Postmas Diamond Mine

Diamond mines formed part of the history of this small town, which found its first diamond in 1918 and had its own diamond rush. The mine, however, met the same fate as “The Big Hole” in Kimberly, as it flooded and caused a significant crater in the ground.

This hole can be viewed from above. It is around 45 meters deep and filled with greenish-brown hued water. To this day, this little town still produces minerals for export, most notably manganese.
