Unsure which settlements will ensure your artful ways are entertained? Take a look at a few towns that are sure to be an unforgettable adventure.

Bronkhorstspruit

A quaint town a mere 50km from Pretoria, Bronkhorstspruit is a hidden gem filled with creativity and cultural activities within its crevasses. Whether you are looking for traditional galleries or gorgeous architecture, this town will have you covered.

One of the top arty things to do is visit the Anton Smit Sculpture Garden. This green space is around three hectares and boasts many tall sculptural pieces, primarily products that resemble human forms.

These statues have been showcased around the world and are situated in a fantastic garden you can stroll through easily. Entrance is free, which makes this a top art-filled activity if you’re on a budget.

The Nan Hua Buddist Temple is a sight to behold if you’re looking for a visually stimulating experience but are not necessarily looking to walk through a gallery. At the same time, this might seem like a typical temple with its beautiful and vibrant gate welcoming visitors, but this religious venue is also a village with a few houses on the premises.

With Asian architecture to enjoy and a tranquil silence that fills this space, this is an excellent activity for individuals looking for a slice of solitude and serenity on the weekend.

Muldersdrift

Muldersdrift, a rural area in Gauteng, is the perfect place if you’re looking for a unique activity infused with creativity in the province. The Ngwenya Glass Village is a mere 30 minutes away from Johannesburg and celebrates the art of glass-making.

The glass that is used to create these creations is recycled material sourced from Swaziland and is the best place to purchase a special souvenir from South Africa that strays from the norm. Among the beautiful creations, you’ll stumble upon a kaleidoscope of shops and stalls to browse.

If you’re feeling creative, you can make your way to the Ensky Studio to find your next favourite DIY activity. From colourful candle dipping to the wonders of sand art, you’ll be able to create the day away.

Maboneng

While not a town in Gauteng, you’ll miss out if you give this neighbourhood in Johannesburg a skip. From galleries to the well-known urban installations of street art that line the pathways of the neighbourhood, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a technicolour paradise.
