5 indoor plants that are good for your health

Plants have become the new pets and indoor plants are quite the trend. Now that we have more time than ever on our hands, expand your house plant collection with plants that are not only beautiful, but also good for your health.

Taking a look at the variety of plants our generous biodiversity offers, can be overwhelming. If you’re only starting out, look for hardy plants. They’re usually water wise too and require very little maintenance, yet look great inside your home.

These plants are not only pretty to look at, they actually have physical as well as emotional health benefits.

Also called the ‘snake plant’, this is a superb air purifier. Of all the different oxygen producing plants, this one is unique since it converts a lot of carbon dioxide to oxygen at night, making it ideal to have several in your bedroom, according to Rolling Nature.

2. Kalanchoe blossfeldiana

This hardy succulent is easy to care for and comes in a variety of colours. Interestingly, this plant is known to be used in traditional herbal medicine to treat infections, rheumatism and inflammation.

3. The ZZ plant

This indigenous plant can absorb even ‘severely compromised’ pollutants from the air and improves air quality to such an extent that it enhances cognitive function, according to balconygardenweb.com. Sounds like a win-win to us!

4. The Zebra plant

This succulent needs very little water and loves sunlight. It is said to have a calming effect on its surroundings and to ‘provide nourishment and relaxation to mental health,’ according to greene.pk. Well, we tend to agree, who doesn’t feel relaxed looking at this little thing?

5. Aloe Vera

It’s no secret that Aloe vera has a plethora of medicinal uses. It contains powerful antioxidant and antibacterial properties and can be used to treat light burns, among other things.
