Continuing my photographic journey through Cape Town’s many markets, the Earth Fair Market in St George’s Mall is the second one in this photo series. Just like the City Bowl Market on Hope Street, it started as a weekend market and later opened itself up to lunch- and dinner-seeking crowds in town. Taking place along the beautiful tree-lined St George’s Mall in downtown Cape Town, the market starts at 11h00 and ends at 15h00 every Thursday, making it ideal for a lunch break out of the office.
The food is absolutely amazing and I usually find myself walking up and down about five times before deciding on lunch. Some of the incredible ready-to-eat treats are burgers, spring rolls, quiches, seafood paella, burritos and wraps while the sweet treats include fudge, ice cream, cupcakes and brownies. Of course, there’s the wide selection of fresh bread, fruit, preserves and even flowers to choose from as well. Top this all off with a freshly squeezed, innovative juice and you’re good to go. The market has a lovely atmosphere under the trees and there’s enough space to sit and enjoy your meal, especially now that the sun is back out again.
The Earth Fair Market takes place every Thursday from 11h00 to 15h00 in St George’s Mall. Visit their website for the times and place of their Tokai and Noordhoek markets.
