Last Saturday saw the launch of a new addition to the vibrant markets in Cape Town. The Palms Market, located in Woodstock, is a bi-monthly market that showcases the freshest produce from the platteland. I was lucky enough to receive an invitation to the opening from Social Plus One, and as a market enthusiast, I couldn’t resist checking it out. Despite being a new market, The Palms Market already has its own unique charm, with both indoor and outdoor areas to explore, as well as the added convenience of covered parking.
During the market, a lady by the name of Christine showed us all a demonstration on smoked snoek, one of Cape Town’s favourite fish. She only uses seasonal produce straight from the platteland and for the demo, she showed the crowd how to make West Coast smoked snoek, a quick smoked snoek terrine, smoked snoek fish cakes, smoked snoek pie, smoked snoek samoosas and chive pancakes with a smoked snoek and peppadew filling. Absolutely delicious!
