Save the world, one lunch party at a time
Eat For The Earth is an initiative inviting all South Africans to host a lunch with family and friends, raise a little money, and play a role in helping the environment this World Environment Day on Sunday 5 June 2011.
All money raised will go to Soil For Life, a Cape Town NGO that teaches people in underprivileged areas how to build soil and grow vegetables, so that families can sit down to fresh, nutritious and free food all year round. By creating green, growing spaces in otherwise unfriendly and lifeless areas, Soil for Life encourages a healthier way of life, food security, and community development; and plays a part in greening SA’s townships one home at a time.
The Eat For The Earth concept is simple, social and scrumptious: invite around 10 friends or family members to lunch at your home on Sunday 5 June 2011, and ask each to make a contribution to “the earth” to say thanks. The recommended donation can be anywhere between R25 and R200 per person, depending on their means (not on the quality of your cooking!).
Donations can be made online at www.eatfortheearth.com before the day to save guests and hosts having to handle money. Fantastic prizes from Yuppiechef.co.za will be up for grabs for both guests and hosts.
The goal of this year’s initiative is to help create 450 new gardens in some of South Africa’s most underprivileged areas. Teaching a family how to set up and maintain a garden takes a year and costs R2 000. Your contribution will go directly to this cause in full.
