Backsberg Estate Cellars is a scenic 40-minute drive from Cape Town and the perfect spot for a summer evening concert.
A group of friends and I had the pleasure of attending one of the last for the season with the band Wrestlerish performing. We had such a relaxing time that by the end we didn’t want to leave! Think: plenty of lawn space, big trees with plenty of shade to lie under, yummy picnic goodies (we brought our own, but you can get pre-made picnics there), and deliciously cold Sauvignon Blanc. No fighting for space to sit, trying to find your friends, and hassling with traffic. In fact we felt more like we were having our own private concert with the band cracking jokes and entertaining us throughout the afternoon. The lead singer introduced himself by saying: “If I were a slice of pizza, I’d be the one with the most cheese”. We also received a complementary entry into a raffle where you could win a box of three of Backsberg’s wines – unfortunately we didn’t win!
A large percentage of Backsberg’s wines are bottled in lightweight bottles which, according to research, significantly reduces C02 emissions. As a result of being made from a larger percentage of recycled material, they are much better for the environment. They are picnic-friendly, easy to carry around and on sale at very reasonable prices.
The last kykNET Backsberg Picnic Concert is happening this Sunday, the 13th February with “Schalk Joubert and friends” performing. Tickets are R85 or R150 with a picnic and R100.00 at the gate. Children under 12 years get in free, when accompanied by their parents. Tickets are available from www.ticketbreak.co.za.
