Passes & Poorts book launch
At last I feel like a real author. After incubating my book, Passes & Poorts: Getaway’s Top 30 Scenic Mountain Routes in the Western Cape, for 13 years, it’s finally on the shelves and we had a great launch last night at Wordsworth Books at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
I was a bit nervous about having to speak as I’m more used to being behind a computer screen or camera lens than in the spotlight. With the help of leading questions from a laid-back Don Pinnock, Getaway‘s previous editor, it turned into a fun session. All the friends and colleagues who came to celebrate with me made it easy to chat about the book, so thanks to all who came to show their support, especially those who bought books. One guy totalled his Christmas shopping list right there and asked me to sign multiple copies.
The cherry on the top was when a gent in the audience turned out to be the grandson of Thomas Bain, the great engineer who built 23 of the country’s magnificent mountain passes, of which 10 feature in my book.
Wordsworth is restocking today as there weren’t too many Passes & Poorts left at the end of the evening and will have plenty more copies, so tell your friends. You can also order Passes & Poorts online.
And just in case you didn’t hear Pete correct himself, I’m not an elderly worm farm adopter; make that an EARLY worm farm adopter!
