Truth Coffee is drenched in grit and cool. This spot, in the heart of the The Fringe innovation district, is about more than just coffee. Walk into this haute industrial space, boasting generous servings of punk-meets-vintage-smoking-room flair, and you walk into an exciting Victorian futuristic fantasy. Billed as ‘the world’s coolest café’ by the Guardian (MSN Travel), you too will almost immediately agree. As you would expect of beans roasted over a 1940s cast -iron drum, its coffee is as badass as its baristas. These guys roast coffee, properly.

At Deluxe Coffee Works, the point is the coffee. No fancy food. No Wi-Fi. It’s about the vibe: good music and an eclectic blend of people.These guys serve up their coffee as they would like to drink it. The coffee house does not advertise; just pure old word-of-mouth. This essentially means that one should expect an authentic crowd, intentional about their drinking pleasure and its surrounds. Found at the very end of an alley way, don’t mistaken Roodehek Street with Roodehoek – where the German Club can be found. Pure passion allows the team to do what they do, the way that they do it.

There was an era when artisans took a great deal of pride in their penchants. Behold: Origin Coffee Roasting, set in a well-dressed heritage building in De Waterkant’s chic strip. Here, coffee-making is an art form and the act of drinking is a permanent novelty. An international preserve of beans from as far as Bolivia, Honduras and Indonesia; and closer to home – Tanzania and Kenya – are sure to please the most serious of (c)offenders. They rate they’re the artisan roasters of Africa. I can only confirm that the hypnotizing aroma of the beans is certainly met by the gaudiness of flavour.

The space at Tribe Coffee Roasting gently reins back the energetic injection of what one expects from a zesty mug of roasted beans. I won’t blame you for wanting to take your shoes off. There is a Zen like peace within the spot that soothes; inviting you to stay longer. Armed with Wi-Fi and located in the Woodstock Foundry – a new development of retails stores and creative studios – one can expect to dabble in a little networking and relaxation that may inspire an idea or two. Merriam-Webster encyclopaedia defines tribe as a social group comprising numerous families, clans, or generations together with slaves, dependents, or adopted stranger. Expect the all of the above in this Tribe.
