The Durban food scene: what to eat and where

Durban is known and loved for its interesting tourist attractions. However, that’s not all which the destination brings to the table. It is also renowned for its impressive and versatile food scene.

In the bustling streets of the lively city, there are different and delicious meals to suit the tastebuds of every kind of foodie. If you choose the right meal at the right place, you’re in for an unforgettable culinary experience.

When in Durban, here’s what to eat and where:

  1. Tasty bunny chow at The Oriental Restaurant

The Durban experience is quite incomplete without a tasty bunny chow. If you fancy one that oozes fresh and aromatic flavours, head to The Oriental Restaurant.

At the restaurant, you will be spoilt to an assortment of bunny chows including the kebab bunny, mutton bunny, mince bunny, sugar beans bunny and chicken bunny. If you appreciate a bit of seafood, the prawn bunny is also available. Although The Oriental Restaurant can be a bit busy at times, the tasty food is definitely worth the wait!

For those with a sweet tooth, there’s Mary & Joe at the heart of Umhlanga. The beautiful café offers tantalizing desserts including tarts, a selection of freshly baked cakes, as well as some waffles which are simply to die for!

 

You can enjoy a classic waffle with some ice-cream and syrup, or add some strawberries to the mix. For the chocoholics, the famous and decadent Chocoholics Anonymous waffle is a must-try.
