This week we have compiled five of the best funny signs sent in by our readers, all of whom admits that these unexpected creativeness (and mostly mistakes) made their journey so much more memorable. Some readers have even been inspired by Getaway’s newest Funny Signs edition (win a copy by submitting your favourite funny signs here) to look for that epic sign innocently captured during past journeys.
These funny signs were compiled by Annuschka du Preez
Dave Ross saw this sign at Cape St. Francis. It is probably one of the most affective threats they could think of seeing as nobody would want to go back to the “pot-hole system”.
As if the no entry-sign wasn’t clear enough, the dutch sign below it, “ga terug” (go back), would most likely grab a tourist’s attention, says Frans van Zyl who took this photo in Leiden, Holland.
Minette Maré took this photo in an informal settlement on route to Loskop dam near Mpumalanga. She reckons this sign is part of a HIV or sex education campaign and it was apparently the mildest sign she felt comfortable taking a picture of!
Ironic much? Danie van Eeden thought so when capturing this black dog on her chair at the Cavern Resort in the Drakensberg.
While visiting Kaapsehoop in Mpumalanga, Wendy Lombard stumbled upon this sign. This quaint town only has one tar road and it is therefore no wonder the roads are referred to as ‘holey’, people must spend a lot of time praying they will arrive with their teeth intact.
Pop in again next week for another dose of funny. Alternatively, if you think you have stumbled upon a sign worthy of this space please email it to [email protected] and you could win a copy of Best of Getaway Funny Signs.
