Well-known GPS manufacturers Garmin have recently launched new adventure cameras – the Garmin HD 1080p Virb Action Camera.
We haven’t been able to test this new device yet, but you can read Getaway reviews of other adventure cameras on the market here.
Basic VIRB specs
- HD Recording options for 720p, 960p and 1080p or 854×480 Slow motion
- 16-Megapixel still photographs (can be used whilst recording)
- Activate recording using the Slider switch or from compatible ANT+ enabled Garmin devices
- Over 3 hours battery life at 1080p full HD

- 1.4” Display for Viewfinder, Preview and Playback feature so you can see what’s potting
- Digital Image stabilization and Lens Distortion Correction

VIRB Elite Specs
The VIRB elite has all the same specs as the basic model – 16mp stills, 1080p video, waterproof and has a viewfinder.
What really differentiates the two cameras is the GPS function and you pay an extra grand for it. Built in GPS, Accelerometer and Altimeter sensors, all compatible with ANT+ enabled accessories like Heart Rate, which is then incorporated into your video.
So if you’re a trail runner or cyclist it’s a really good way of recording everything.
