Based on the best-selling book with the same title, Game Drive includes not only information on the mammals and birds of the eastern bushveld areas of South Africa but also useful information such as animal track identification and game drive tips. Yet, what makes this app different from the Game Drive book and any other animal guide, is the original, interactive way in which the information is presented. The section on animal tracks offers the user a chance to swipe over the track to see which track belongs to which animal. The app also boasts an interactive animal track quiz, in which the user can drag a track onto the matching animal. If it is on the correct animal, the track sticks, otherwise it goes back to its original position.
Incorporated in the app is a drag and drop checklist, where the user can drag a picture of an animal sighted in one area and drop it in to another area, to keep a record of sightings. One of the most enticing features of Game Drive is the inclusion of animal sounds. When looking at an animal and reading about it, the user can hear its sounds with a simple tap of a button. This elevates the viewing experience to a whole new level. And if this is not enough, the app also offers two extensive animal quizzes. Here a question is asked about animal behaviour or relationships and the user has to tap on the answer. The second quiz is on animal sounds, where the user can listen to a sound and identify it by tapping on the answer.
“Game Drive has been an incredibly exciting app to create,” says Heinrich van den Berg who developed the app. “Tablets open up a whole new world when it comes to presenting data. By using the same information found in the Game Drive book in an interactive way with quizzes, checklists and comparisons between animals, this app makes the Game Drive guide infinitely more useful for the game viewer.”
At only $14.99 from the App store the Game Drive app is the most useful and entertaining reference tool available to any avid wildlife lover.
