Spring in #Istanbul brings with it close to 30 million tulips across the city. The flowers bloom every April during Istanbul’s Tulip Festival, which has been held every year since 2006. People all around the world visit sites like Emirgan Park to see the blooms and the world’s largest “tulip carpet” in Sultanahmet. Tulips originated in Turkey, with cultivation beginning in the Ottoman Empire. The colourful bulbs were imported to the Netherlands in the 16th century.
