It’s tulip season in the Northern Hemisphere, and although the Netherlands immediately springs to mind as the obvious place to view these colourful flowers, it’s not the only spot where you can be wowed by rows of blooms.
1. Istanbul, Turkey
These tulips are offset by the famous Hagia Sophia museum and mosque in Istanbul, one of the places where tulips originated.
Emirgen Park in Istanbul is a beautiful landscaped park, with waterfalls, ponds, views across the Bosphorus River to the Asian side of Istanbul, and, of course, tulips.
2. Keukenhof Gardens, Netherlands
Situated in Lisse southern Holland, the Keukenhof Gardens, which span 32 hectares, are one of the world’s largest flower gardens. Over 4 million tulip bulbs have been planted here and are open to the public for viewing from from March to May.
3. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Tulips can be found all around the the city during Spring and on display on the annual tulip festival. These bulbs probably originated in Asia, where they were cultivated starting in the tenth century. They only came to Europe in the sixteenth century, where they quickly became extremely popular, especially in the Netherlands.
4. New York, USA
Although you won’t find tulip farms in the Big Apple, you’ll find them brightening walkways this Spring and you can head to Albany, the capital of New York State, for the annual tulip festival.

5. Washington State, USA
You can find tulips growing around Seattle in Washington State, in the north-western United States. Places like Tulip Town are full of blooms at this time of year.
