Tourists can explore history’s most famous shipwreck, the Titanic that sank four days into its maiden voyage in 1912, in the depths of the North Atlantic Ocean.
Titanic Survey Expedition will launch the trip this coming winter that costs $105,000 (R1.4-million), where guests can explore the ruins of the ship in a five-person submersible.
The trip begins in St. John’s, in Newfoundland, Canada, aboard a support ship that travels to the wreckage area. Once at the site, guests will board Titan, the submersible developed by OceanGate and head down to the wreck. Titan is able to reach a depth of up to 4,000 metres.
It will dive for 90-minutes, providing guests with a close up view of the wreckage as it shines a bright light to view the ship’s iconic grand staircase and the overall wreckage.

The Titan offers a basic equipped facility that is comfortable and clean, but don’t expect a luxurious ride down into the ocean. Travellers may also have to get their hands dirty as they get involved in the process of both pre and post-dive servicing.
There are several requirements to the trip, guests must be 18 years-old and older, be comfortable aboard boats in rough seas, have basic balance and flexibility as they will climb a 1.8m ladder and carry 9kgs. Each guest must complete a one day ‘helicopter underwater egress training’ to board the Titan. Guests can also look froward to one dive underwater.
The trip allows science lovers to further understand how to analyze sand read images and footage captured of the underwater wreckage, including an analysis of 3D and 2D scans of the ships skeletal remains.
