- I followed this turtle around a remote unexplored reef in the outer islands of the Seychelles. I was probably the first human it had ever encountered and thus it was not concerned by my presence at all. I remained with the turtle until late in the afternoon, waiting for better light, and eventually took this image when some rabbitfish arrived on the scene.- By Rainer von Brandis, Cape Town Nikon D200, Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8 DX Fisheye, ISO 100, f/10, 1/60 sec
- This is Africa to me. Waking up before sunrise, walking along a semi-dry riverbed, getting chased by plovers and Egyptian geese, stumbling upon a herd of Kudu -all while the cool morning breeze ushers in that fierce African sun. The image was taken next to the Bloukrans River in Colenso. – By Justin Pringle, Kloof Nikon D750, Nikon 10-24mm, ISO 125, f/13, 15 sec
- This macro image is of a dragonfly dusted by the pollen of a Zimbabwean flamelilly that I had in my garden. I had saved it from the waters of my swimming pool and waited with it while it dried off. Shortly after I took the images it flew away. – By Leon Pelser, Mpumalanga Sony a55, Sigma 105mm f/2.8, ISO 200, f/11, 1 sec
- Baboons have complex social structures. Scientific evidence shows that for a baboon to succeed a complicated balance of relationships, friendships, and status manoeuvres is demanded. The ensuing political scheming results in frequent altercations between troop members, as this image taken in the Greater Kruger National Park shows. – By Elmar Venter, Pretoria Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II, ISO 800, f/7.1, 1/2500 sec
- We’d been searching for these cubs and their mother for two days in Londolozi Game Reserve when finally, late in the morning of an overcast day, we found the female cub in a Marula tree. We sat and waited with her for a few hours, and eventually the young male came out and joined his sister in the tree. After a highly entertaining play session, they settled down right where we had wanted them on the open branch. We were positioned nearby, in the hope that they would do this, but could never have predicted that they would lie this perfectly! – By Nick Kleer, Hazyview Canon 7D Mark II, Canon 300mm f/2.8L, ISO 1250, f/6.3, 1/800 sec
- On a road trip down to Durban we took a pass through Clarens and the Golden Gate Nature Reserve. By Ashley Christophers, Johannesburg Nikon D5500, Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, ISO 100, f/22, 1/30 sec
- I took this image at Dunes, in Noordhoek. Noordhoek is arguably one of the best surfing spots in South Africa- a perfect getaway spot for all surfers. – By Dean Bannatyne, Cape Town Canon 100D, Canon 75-300mm f/4-5.6, ISO 100, f/4.5, 1/2000 sec
- This photo was taken while guiding in the Sabi Sands. Using a telephoto lens, I was able to capture a female leopard moving through an open area towards a drainage line without disturbing her. The overhead conditions were gloomy so I set a relatively high ISO and a wide aperture for a decent exposure and blurred background.- By Pravir Patel, Makhado Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 500mm f/4 L II, ISO 2000, f/4, 1/125 sec
- A pack of wild dogs in the Sabi Sands had approached a waterhole where a lone male hippo was resting. After a few minutes the hippo became a bit restless and moved out of the waterhole while the wild dogs watched from the edge. – By Pravir Patel, Makhado Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 500mm f/4 L II, ISO 500, f/5.6, 1/800 sec
