The town of Mahikeng in North West Province is the capital of South Africa. One of its other names is Mafeking. Being adjacent to the border of Botswana, Mafikeng is approximately 1400 kilometers either northeast or southwest of Cape Town and 260 kilometers west of Johannesburg. The 5800-hectare Botsalano Game Reserve is located close to Mafikeng City. It is situated on level ground that is covered in Acacia and Karee trees as well as Kalahari bushveld. It lies close to the border between South Africa and Botswana, close to the settlement of Ramatlabama.
There are more than 2000 rhino and antelope heads in this game reserve. It is home to over 200 known bird species and serves as a major breeding place for antelope.
