Tulbagh, a hidden gem nestled in the Western Cape, offers a blend of history, stunning scenery, and of course, exceptional wine. For those who love to explore on foot, the Tulbagh Wine Walk is a must.
The four-day adventure is an immersive, multi-day experience based at the charming Oudekloof Wine Estate. Explore the area’s hidden gems, meet passionate winemakers, and discover the soul of the Tulbagh Valley on foot. The multi-day adventure includes the following three walks:
1. Oakhurst Walk (+- 13 km)
Begin with an olive tasting at Oakhurst Olive Farm, followed by a walk to Theuniskraal Wine Estate. Delve into history at De Oude Drostdy Manor, dating back to 1806, and admire its antique Cape Dutch furniture and historic jail. The path then crosses Tulbagh Winery before enjoying the scenery on the final kilometers back to Oudekloof Wine Estate via a bus transfer.

2. Forgotten Highway Walk (+- 13 km)
Along the way to your first wine estate on day 2, you might spot newborn Damara sheep or world-class Limousine calves. You’ll be following the scenic path along the Obiqua Mountains, visiting Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate / Krone and Saronsberg Wine Cellar. A gin tasting awaits at Vindoux Guest Farm. Enjoy wine and a picnic on top of the mountain during a spectacular Tulbagh Tractor ride while staring out over the Tulbagh Valley before your bus returns you to Oudekloof Wine Estate.

3. A walk down Memory Lane (8-10km)
Visit Montpellier de Tulbagh, Rijk’s Wine Estate, and Manley Wine Estate. Step back in time with a leisurely stroll down Church Street, the historic heart of Tulbagh, lined with beautifully restored Cape Dutch, Edwardian, and Victorian buildings. Enjoy a delicious lunch before a bus takes you back to Oudekloof Wine Estate.

When to go: Tulbagh is beautiful during the Summer and Winter months. If you prefer lush green vineyards, the warmer months are for you. If you prefer snow-capped mountains and beautiful green landscapes then the colder months are a treat.
What to pack: Comfortable walking shoes (suitable for gravel roads), a backpack, water bottle, hat, sunglasses, sunblock, walking clothes, a warm jacket, and swimwear.
Fitness level: The walks are considered easy, mostly on gravel roads through farms with no steep climbs.
Getting there: Oudekloof Wine Estate is a safe place to park your car if you’re driving yourself. Airport transfers from Cape Town International Airport can be arranged at an additional cost.
Included: Farm stay for 3 or 4 nights, breakfast, lunch and three-course dinners with wine, visits to all estates & tastings, Tulbagh Tractor Ride, Historic Church Street and museum tour, tour guide and transfers to destinations.
