Hartebeespoort, or ‘Harties’ in the North West, is frequented by holiday-goers for its plentiful activities, leisure opportunities, and beautiful landscapes.
Here are ten things to do when visiting this adventure-filled destination.
1. Aerial Cableway
There’s nothing better than a beautiful view and an awesome ride to get there. The Aerial Cableway takes you up the Magaliesberg and offers views of the mountains, the dam, and surrounding areas. Rain or shine, you can go as a group of four or enjoy a two-seater with someone special.
2. The Strawberry Farm
Strawberry season is usually between October and December, and the Strawberry Farm is open on weekends for you to visit. Spend the day outside, walking through the strawberry fields, picking and tasting the juicy, delicious fruit.
3. Boat Cruise
The Harties Boat Company offers Daily Lunch and Sunset Cruises aboard Danny Buoy, and it is one of the iconic activities to do in Hartebeespoort. The cruise starts at Kommandonek and passes the Caribbean estate, Sandy Lane Golf Course, and the Kosmos Village. This all happens while you indulge in gourmet finger-and-fork snacks and refreshing bubbly.
4. Magaliesberg Canopy Tours
Magaliesberg Canopy Tours offers a ‘ziplining adventure like no other’ over one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, estimated to be 2500 million years old. Zipline between 11 platforms for 2.5 hours while enjoying the beautiful scenery below.
5. Culinary Delights
The local culinary scene in Hartebeespoort is great, with a wide range of bistros, cafes, and restaurants to choose from. Try out Fisherman’s On Deck, Silver Orange Bistro, or Vela Contemporary the next time you’re in Harties.
6. Horseback riding
Horseback riding always offers a unique perspective of an area’s natural beauty. Horse & Trails has stunning horse riding scenic and mountain trails that you can enjoy, with or without horse riding experience.
7. Welwitschia Country Market
The whole family will love a trip to Welwitschia Country Market, with three restaurants to choose from, 40 shops to browse, a kids’ playground, and live music to keep your ears happy. This market is eco-friendly, and every bottle cap, sweet wrapper, and piece of plastic is collected, recycled, and reused.
8. Upside Down House
The Upside-down house is a quirky establishment and is one of the most popular activities in Hartebeestpoort, where you can let your creative juices fly.
Not only has the house been built on its side and slightly tilted, but the furniture has been placed where it would be if it were right side up. There are no time slots or time limits when visiting the house, so you can meander through a couple of times, picking the best location for your impeccable Instagram post.

Bill Harrops Original Balloon Safaris offers such an experience over the Magaliesberg Mountains and a champagne breakfast after landing.
10. White water rafting
Splashing your way over the Crocodile River in a two-person canoe should be added to your bucket list of activities while in Hartebeespoort. Paddle Power has a two-hour guided paddle for groups of friends and family. You will face weirs and rapids that add to the excitement and fun of the experience.
