Things to do in Elgin Valley

Posted on 11 October 2024 By Tsoku Maela
The Elgin Valley has gained a reputation for its thriving agricultural industry, known for its vast apple and pear orchards, flourishing greenhouse cut flowers, and rose cultivation. In recent years, it has also become a prominent region for producing high-quality, cool-climate wines, making it a diverse and vibrant area for both farming and viticulture.
Here, we share some of our favourite must-see places in the region.

1. Peregrine Farm Stall

Peregrine Farm Stall is a must-stop for many travelers, and it’s easy to see why. The restaurant, rebuilt with a stunning wooden structure after a fire (and without using a single nail), has a timeless charm. Whether grabbing a bite at the café, shopping for artisanal goods, or indulging in the bakery, there’s something for every visitor.

The café caters to a range of tastes, offering delectable options for vegetarians and vegans, such as their veggie burger or falafel. For meat lovers, the renowned venison pie is a highlight, alongside the popular spanakopita from the deli.

No visit would be complete without sampling the bakery’s famous mosbolletjies, a traditional sweet bread that flies off the shelves. Visitors can also enjoy freshly pressed juices or warm spiced apple juice in winter. And, of course, wine enthusiasts can pick up Elgin Valley wines from the farm stall.
