Botswana is open for international travel and is welcoming all nationals into the country under the condition that they follow protocol before they enter the country and during their visit.
The reopening of international borders started on 9 November 2020.
Upon arrival, visitors need to present a printed original test certificate of a negative COVID-19 test result conducted 72 hours before their departure to Botswana, according to Go2Africa. At the airports, Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gabarone, Maun International Airport and Kasane International Airport visitors will undergo a health screening for COVID-19 symptoms.
Visitors arriving at Maun International Airport will be required to do a free Rapid Antigen test. Results will be available to them after 15 minutes.
Visitors are to complete a traveller locator form with the correct contact information so that the Health Authority can reach you while you’re in Botswana.
If a visitor shows any COVID-19 symptoms, they will be required to undergo a PCR test, and possible isolation and a 14-day quarantine.
Before leaving Botswana to return to South Africa, visitors will be required to take a PCR test 24 hours prior to their departure. There are two ways this process can be done:
The first option is that a qualified practitioner can be flown out to your camp or lodge to conduct the PCR test. An online booking 36 hours in advance is essential, and a minimum of two guests. Before you consider this option, keep in mind that you will be liable for all costs.
The second option is that the PCR test is conducted at either Kasane and Maun International Airports. Remember that bookings are essential. Your results will be ready within 24 hours of taking the test.
