Dullstroom’s Trout Valley is iconic for its trophy and rainbow trout, and now guests can have exclusive access to this fly-fishing haven with a new self-catering venue.
‘It is the stuff of fishing folklore,’ says Jonathan Boulton of Mavungana Flyfishing. ‘Dating back to the late 1960s these three farms and their iconic trout waters were strictly private and traditionally for the exclusive use of Anglo American company directors and senior management.’
This meant that the low people traffic and pristine water supply have resulted in these waters producing excellent trout over the years.
Boultan said that fishing on all properties is flyfishing only, and strictly catch and release – a senior Mavungana Flyfishing guide will be in attendance during all fishing sessions.
High-end tackle will be available for use by all guests. ‘Our guides are highly experienced and no one knows the waters and conditions better. They will assist with techniques and valuable seasonal insight into the waters, ensure fish are handled and appropriately released and also record valuable fish details.’
Trout Valley features three dams which are fed by the extensive wetlands unaffected by runoff from other properties or development. ‘The dams have been magnificently engineered, providing an excellent variety of depth and sunlight penetration, maximising invertebrate life and habitat for the trout,’ Boulton added.
Bookings are highly limited to a few select prime coldwater months per year. Visit Longmeadow for details.
