You’ve no doubt heard of the Ice Hotel in Sweden and perhaps the chocolate cottage in France, but did you know about the Palacio De Sal, a hotel in Bolivia built entirely from salt?
The hotel was constructed on the edge of the largest salt pan on the globe, Salar de Uyuni, which measures over 10,000 square kilometres. A previous hotel built in the middle of the pan had to be dismantled because of environmental concerns. The Palacio De Sal (Palace of Salt) is made up of salt blocks, and the rooms feature igloo-style domed ceilings. The walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, and even sculptures are all made of salt.
Unsurprisingly, there is a saltwater pool and spa, and the hotel also boasts a dry sauna and steam room. There is one important rule at the hotel: visitors are prohibiting from licking the walls (to prevent degradation).
