‘We are dismayed that this happened’ a spokesperson for the British National Trust commented after a 230-year-old statue was defaced at Croome in Worcester, England.
Carved from Coade stone, experts believe the statue was made in 1802 and depicts Sabrina, the Roman Naiade – a type of female spirit, or nymph that occurs over fountains, wells, springs.
Even though the markings have been removed from the statue, the work is still ongoing to remove crayon markings from the Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown Memorial at the Neo-Palladian mansion
