Three lions spent a weekend on the loose in Mpumalanga after escaping Kruger National Park on Friday 18 November.
On Saturday, the communities of Belfast and Huttington in Bushbuckridge were warned of lions in the vicinity of Saringwa Farms, Elephant points road, Lisbon and Huntington road.
‘While they do not know where the three lions escaped from,’ Kruger National Park spokesperson Ike Phaahla told News24, ‘we looked for them the whole day, and there was no sighting of them, but people could hear them roaring at night.’.
After a three-day search, the lions were found in thick bushes near Sabi Sand on Monday 14 November. ‘It’s impossible to know where they escaped from, but they are definitely from Kruger Park,’ said Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency manager Louw Steyn.
