If you stay in Gauteng and you’re keen to visit Botswana, a very accessible route is making itself accessible as of the end of this month. And what’s more, you don’t have to deal with a busy airport either. Air Botswana announced that they are commencing twice daily scheduled services between Gaborone and Lanseria starting on 31 October 2012.
According to a report on Tourirsm Update, flights between Gaborone and Lanseria will operate every Wednesday and Friday, departing Gaborone at 07h20 and arriving at Lanseria at 08h20. The second flight from Gaborone departs at 16h00, arriving at 17h00. The return services depart Lanseria on the same days at 08h50, arriving in Gaborone at 09h50, the second flight departs Lanseria at 18h00, arriving in Gaborone at 19h00.
The airline also introduced services on five other routes including Gaborone to Cape Town, Gaborone to Lilongwe, Gaborone to Blantyre (via Harare), Gaborone to Nairobi (via Harare) and Maun to Victoria Falls.
Many people prefer Lanseria Airport because of its proximity to Pretoria and Sandton and because it’s a quieter airport, making checking in times much shorter. But this might change soon. A report on News24 states that the airport is busy constructing a new 3km runway to accommodate growth in future aircraft movement.
‘Lanseria International Airport is well established as Gauteng’s regional airport of choice, and our goal is to deliver the class of service our passengers have become accustomed to,’ said airport Manager Gavin Sayce.
Air Botswana Sales Manager – RSA Charmain Lemkus says that the decision to operate out of Lanseria was both operational and commercial. ‘Lanseria’s proximity to the business and shopping centres located in Sandton and surrounds played a role in our decision. Lanseria International Airport is also easily accessed from the West Rand, Pretoria and on no toll roads,’ says Lemkus.
