No previous sailing experience is required for this record-breaking 40 000 nautical mile (129 640 km) race around the world on a sailing yacht.
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is a biennial race where amateur crews circumnavigate the globe on 11 specifically designed yachts.
The race is divided into eight legs between 13 and 16 individual races, where participants can choose to complete the full circumnavigation or select individual legs.
Professional skippers and an additional qualified person lead each team on the 10-month journey around the world. This means that everyday people can apply and take part after completing a rigorous training course.
Clipper describes this race as ‘an unparalleled challenge where taxi drivers rub shoulders with chief executives, vicars mix with housewives, students work alongside bankers, and engineers team up with rugby players.’
‘Navigate the Doldrums en route to South America, endure epic Southern Ocean storms, experience South African sunsets, face the mountainous seas of the North Pacific – and bond with an international crew creating lifelong memories before returning victorious.’
If you fancy yourself a sailor, applications are now open for the 2025-26 race which starts in Liverpool, UK. Apply here.
