The annual event, AviaDev, which seeks to connect airlines, airports and other African travel authorities, has been fruitful in presenting new and problem-solving solutions for air travel.
One such was the A321XLR, which Airbus revealed and poses great promise in terms of fuel efficiency and long-haul flight possibilities. The company states that this upgraded aircraft model will provide 20-40% reductions in fuel-burning rates. This cutting-edge function would not only reduce airline costs but also a large part of their emissions.
During his presentation at the event, Joep Ellers, the Airbus Airline Marketing Director, stated: “The XLR will allow airlines to operate long-haul routes of up to eight and a half or nine hours with a smaller module. This could work for an airline that does not have or would not want to operate widebodies but still wants to offer a long-haul service.”
