Baboon Matters, a welfare organisation dedicated to baboon conservation, is urgently seeking assistance to fund troop monitoring efforts after a distressing incident involving a baby baboon.
According to IOL, the Baboon Matters’ spokesperson, Jenni Trethowan, revealed that the five-month-old baboon named Themba sustained a severe eye injury of unknown origin, suspected to be caused by a paintball gun.
The injury to Themba’s eye has raised concerns about the well-being of other baboons in the area. While the exact circumstances surrounding the injury remain uncertain, the sight of such an injury on such a young baboon is highly unusual.
Although Themba is currently recovering well, it is uncertain whether the injury will result in partial or complete blindness.
Baboon Matters is appealing for financial assistance to support the welfare of the baboon troop. The dedicated troop monitors are more determined than ever to establish the troop’s settlement in Cecelia and Orange Kloof, and they have been working tirelessly in all weather conditions to ensure the safety of the baboons.
However, the organisation is facing a critical lack of funds, and without additional support, they will be unable to continue safeguarding Themba, her mother Mwai, and the rest of the troop beyond the end of June.
Baboon Matters Trust has set up a bank account to receive donations from individuals who are able to contribute to this important cause:
- Account Name: Baboon Matters
- Standard Bank
- Branch: Blue Route
- Account Number: 27 0040 080
- Swift Code: SBZAZAJJ
Donations received will go directly toward securing the well-being of the baboon troop, ensuring their safety, and assisting in the ongoing monitoring efforts.
Your support can make a significant difference in preserving these incredible creatures and protecting their natural habitat.
